Filling Time

What can I do with this time?

This was one of the questions I was desperate to answer when lockdown began. I don’t live with family or friends and I saw the isolation as scarily empty and quiet.

So I did what any rational person would do and panic-bought a 1,000 piece puzzle and a very long book!

Those of you who are living with loved ones right now might be thinking ‘oh what I wouldn’t give for some alone time and quiet!’ But whatever our living or work situations, I think all of us have a desire to be occupied. To busy our minds and just do something.  As I sought to occupy myself I felt God challenge me with a word I think is for us all.

Yes, we could fill our time with tv shows, crafts, or task lists and survive this lockdown. But what if we stopped and asked ‘Lord, what can you do with this time?’

What if we shifted our focus from surviving this season to choosing to know Him more within it? I believe God wants to show us that if invite Him into our lockdown we will find not only our time filled but our Spirit, heart and mind fulfilled.

Scripture reminds us so often of this promise! Telling us that if seek God we will find Him (Prov. 8:17). That those who talk to God, sharing their needs and giving Him authority, are protected by peace (Phil. 4:6-7). And that when we have a million things to worry about or spend time on, the best thing we can do is “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matt. 6:25-34).

My friend, let’s surrender our plans and time fillers to be fulfilled by the only One that matters.

Join me in asking God today: ‘Lord, what can you do with this time?’
