Being Untroubled

I know it wasn’t a surprise – most of us have so much information available that we saw it coming. But none the less I still had to take a deep breath when hearing the lockdown extension confirmed. No one, not one single person, in our nation (as well as many other nations) is not impacted in some way by this lockdown. This morning I read Jesus’ words captured in John’s gospel when he said,

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me” (John 14: 1).

He goes on to talk about there being plenty of space in His Father’s house which made me smile when I know so many are struggling right now in cramped home lockdown conditions! But the bit that really struck me was how Jesus both encouraged and challenged his followers to not let their hearts be troubled.

Surely for us, as for the early disciples, we must guard the condition of our hearts so that they do not become troubled. Doing this in our own strength is all but impossible however when we follow his encouragement and put our trust in Jesus then the concerns of our hearts will not be troubled. He is big enough for all of us. He is big enough for you. He is trustworthy.

So church, if your heart is already troubled then I am praying for you today to lift your focus, look towards the one who is truly trustworthy. We will get through this. These troubles will pass. And all the way through Jesus is trustworthy and wants to be with us, known by us, even more.

While we long to gather in person be encouraged today that Jesus wants to meet with you, as He always has, in your home. So do not let your heart be troubled – let’s choose today to trust him even more!
